Each year, click Everest devotees closely watch the climbers. For many, medicine the seed is planted that they might want to visit Everest Base Camp.
For me, this was the start of my passion for mountaineering. In 1997, I made the trek to EBC with Mountain Travel-Sobek under the leadership of guide Cathy Ann-Taylor. I can safely say, it changed my life – for the better.
A page about my trek has been on my site for many years and now I have added a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page to help anyone thinking about a trek.
Please visit the Everest base Camp Trek FAQ page.
I hope you enjoy it but more importantly, I hope you go – it will change you forever!
Climb On!

Here is my accidental trek story which I hope encourages others to Just Do It! Landed in Kathmandu on an around the world trip in 2004. At age 60 I thought I was a bit too old to trek in the Khumbu but just seeing Everest had been a dream of 30 years. Serendipidously, within 6 hours of arrival I was booked for a trek with a wonderful Nepalese guide. We found a porter in Lukla and away we went. There are not words to describe this peak experience of my life. The Sherpa people, the scenery, the camaraderie with climbers and trekkers from all over the world made for indelible memories and lasting friendships. The hiking is similar to what I do in Caalifornia every week…I just took it slower to acclimatize.I plan to do it again…this time more slowly due to my age. Do it when you are young I say!!
Thanks Patti! Young or old, just go everyone! Climb On Patti!!
I did the EBC trek in 2006…. I have to echo Alan’s comment… it is a life changing experience! In addition to the wonderful people, the mountains are more beautiful in person than in any photo. I went back to Nepal in 2008 to Mera Peak…. hoping for one more trip next year!
I’d love to plan a trip to EBC – trying to figure out how to fit it in between work and family is the tricky part.
